Welcome to the Wise Advocacy Group blog, a place where we believe that every child’s educational journey should be filled with opportunities and support, regardless of their unique needs. My name is Megan, and I am not only an educational advocate but also a mother of two incredible children, each with their own set of challenges and triumphs.
In 2015, I had the joy of marrying my husband, Tom, who now wears two hats as both a pastor and a high school teacher. Together, we have formed a strong partnership, committed not only to our own family but also to advocating for children’s education in our community.
My journey as an advocate began with the experiences of raising our two daughters, Averie and Maddie, who both have special needs. Averie, 13, has Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy, and she navigates the world from a wheelchair, is non-verbal, and relies on tube feeding. My younger daughter, Maddie, who is 6 years old, was diagnosed with AutismÂ
Spectrum Disorder at the age of 4. Both of my daughters are enrolled in public school and have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Through my experiences, I have gained an intimate understanding of the challenges that parents and educators face when it comes to navigating the complexities of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and securing appropriate special education supports. As the wife of a teacher, I have also seen firsthand the dedication and commitment educators like Tom have to their students’ success.
One of thee core beliefs of Wise Advocacy Group is that every child deserves access to the resources they need to thrive in their educational journey. No child should be left behind due to challenges in navigating the educational system or financial limitations. That is why I offer free advocacy services to families who may be struggling to access the resources and support they need for their children’s education.
My passion for educational advocacy stems from my firm belief that every child has unique needs and deserves a fair chance to succeed. I have personally witnessed the transformative impact that access to the right resources and support can have on a child’s educational growth and overall well-being. It is this conviction that drives me to work closely with families and educators to ensure that every child receives the best possible education.
