Megan Wise is an educational advocate, mother of two special needs children, and wife of a high school teacher. Through her personal experiences, she has gained an intimate understanding of the challenges that both parents and educators face when it comes to navigating the complexities of the public school system, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and securing appropriate special education supports.
Her passion for advocacy is rooted in her belief that every child has unique needs and deserves a fair chance to succeed. She has seen firsthand the transformative impact that access to the right resources and support can have on a child’s educational journey. As a result, she founded Wise Advocacy Group to provide these resources to all families at no cost.
Wise Advocacy Group is a not-for-profit educational consulting organization dedicated to advocating for individuals with special needs and their right to an inclusive and empowering education. Our mission is to be the unwavering voice for children with special needs and their families, advocating for their educational rights, and empowering them to succeed in a nurturing and inclusive environment. We believe that Every individual deserves equal opportunities to thrive and reach their full potential.
Currently, we offer the following services at no-cost to families, regardless of income:
1. IEP Consultation: We provide comprehensive consultation services, guiding families through the Individual Education Plan process (IEP) process, explaining their rights and options, and assisting in developing effective strategies for their child’s education.
2. Individualized Advocacy: We work closely with families to understand their child’s unique needs and ensure their voice is heard during IEP meetings. We provide professional (non-legal) representation, advocating for appropriate accommodations, modifications, and related services.
3. IEP Review and Analysis: We offer a thorough review and analysis of existing IEPs, identifying areas of improvement and providing recommendations for necessary changes or amendments. We aim to ensure that each IEP accurately reflects individual needs and promotes growth.
4. Mediation and Dispute Resolution: When conflicts arise between families and educational institutions, we act as (non-legal) mediators, helping parities find common ground and resolve disputes amicably. We have extensive experience in conflict resolution and work diligently to protect the rights of individuals with special needs. If the need arises, we make the appropriate legal referrals and discuss formal complaint and dispute paths available.
5. Workshops and Training: We organize workshops and training sessions for parents, caregivers, and educators to enhance their understanding of special education laws, IEP development, and effective advocacy strategies. We believe knowledge is power and seek to empower our community through education.
